Type Studies
3-Letter Monogram
From this assignment, I learned the key aspects that differentiate letters through their most basic form. My concept driving my design was to create, through much trial and error, a letter system that conveys the look of a vintage digital screen, that follows a clear continuity through each character.
4-Letter System & Type Anatomy
During this assignment, I was constructive towards both honing in on my skills with Illustrator to produce a continuous font family, based on the font of a single letter, and with identifying the physical textbook defining features of characters as well.
Sequential Type Work
For this project, I learned how to apply Gestalt principles using only letters to make visually appealing abstract designs. With my designs, I tried to create 3-Dimensional illusions and picturesque forms, to bring these flattened designs to life.
Poster Fold
Designing this poster allowed the creative freedom to make illustrations using text and a design that embodies the festival for which we are designing. I tried to encapsulate the culture and color scheme of a Nu Metal festival through the use of contrasting dark and light vampiric colors and the illustrations of spiders, often associated with gothic culture and metal in general. This project overall improved my skills in manipulating the forms of stylistic elements to create visually interesting text.
Magazine
My concept in mind was to create a magazine spread that synthesizes quality images and interesting organization of text that has a balanced and clean composition, in the theme of a nature magazine. This project improved my skills in orchestrating and organizing text that follows a clear hierarchy and moves smoothly from column to column. This project also allowed me to employ my own artistic imprint through a hand-drawn picture of a frog and foliage that I designed, which runs across the bottom of the page.
Package Design
In this assignment, I learned how to design a multi-faced object and bring it to life in the real world. It was a challenge as well, unbeknownst to me, to have everything spatially sorted to fit into my triangular package. While designing the package design, I based the whole idea on a philosophical concept known as Occam's razor, and used the wordplay of the concept to my advantage. Occam was a monk from the 13th century, and so I found it most appropriate to base my logo and supplementary designs on illuminated manuscript typography and decoration. In the instructions section, I used one of my first-drafted logos to create a mascot that would demonstrate the product use, serving as a tribute to my earlier iterations, which I was torn between.

Other Art Work
Moody Haynes Courtyard, Chracoal and Graphite
For this piece, I sat out in the gravel courtyard of Haynes Hall, and used charcoal for the base layer of the piece, and added graphite that creates a shiny effect by reflecting the light, from certain angles. This was one project for my drawing 1 Class. The piece is roughly 2 feet x 1.5 feet. I tried to capture the gloomy / cloudy day that took place as my reference during making this piece, with slight abstraction of, along with lots of gradation of tone.
Dark Waters, Pen and Ink
This large scale drawing, 5.5 feet x 3 feet, uses thick black ink extracted from sharpies and depicts a kraken devouring a ship. This was one of my first large scale works, and plays with both atmospheric perspective and linear perspective. This served as my capstone project for my first semester in the arts program of intro to drawing. In this piece and a handful of others throughout my artistic I tried to capture the feeling of the Sublime.

Project #1 - Rustic Knight Helm
Throughout my childhood, I had an enduring infatuation with medieval media and history, as well as medieval fantasy, which led me to create this life-sized medieval helmet. Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I lived in NYC, and would often visit the MET, for the sole purpose of the medieval exhibits, where I could experience all the different kinds of Knight armor and helmets, such as Armets, Barbutes, Sallets, and Great helms.
Another factor that interests me is the memories of my brother and me often watching The Lord of the Rings while staying at my Dad’s house. The piece also serves as a homage to fantasy games such as Dark Souls and Skyrim, from which the metals and designs used are inspired by (the Elven helmet from Skyrim, or the Helmet of Favour from Dark Souls). The helmet itself, similar to my memories, is a collage of different pieces of scrap, made up of copper, Nickel, and brass, assembled with both hot and cold connections, to form one unified purpose - the protection of life and its memories.
